Starting like most in his mate’s bedroom Tonner clattered mix after mix on regular occasions the only difference between him and other bedroom DJ’s is that his mate was Punkrock Producer and Godskitchen co owner James Algate. The Bedroom was more like the unopened Bar that James used to work at, and the pair of them messed around with two 1210 originals and a pioneer mixer.
Before long James & Tonner were regularly warming up for the bald headed resident until one night when the owner entered (Neil Moffitt) and announced that James was leaving to manage his new venture “Godskitchen”. Tonner was then left to do the warm ups himself and following an increase of early drinkers to see Tonner play the now even balder resident was sacked and Tonner became the new resident of Bar M Stratford.
Within one month of his first residency Tonner was head hunted to host a new Radio show on the local station The Bear 102. The show was Tonners first taste of radio and his clear Tong like voice he was soon starting to get the local listeners tuning in to a new style of music for that station. The then programme controller was shocked at the response and also the work that Tonner did between shows to ensure he was first for tunes, interviews and Dance Music gossip. At the time this was all going on Tonner had become good friends with Fergie (Radio 1) following a frantic call from Godskitchen that Fergie needed a driver to take him to Godskitchen from his house in Coventry. Tonner being the workaholic drove to Coventry picked up Fergie dropped him at Godskitchen drove to Bar M played his set then returned to Gods to pick up Fergie and drop him home. Tonner and Fergie became the best of mates and after Fergie moved to Tonners Home town of Stratford they can still be seen on those none DJ midweek drinking sessions that most 9 – 5 workers dream of……
After a year at The Bear 102 Tonner was again head hunted to go to the CN Radio Groups station in Coventry KIX 96.2 where his show the Dance Delivery has gained acclaim from many in the industry, from record labels, Dj’s and PR companies who know that if they have a good tune then the person to give it air time will be Tonner.
Tonners Music style has grown up with him as a house Dj he started to play vocal to keep the Bar crowds happy but as he started to play at more and more clubs it became apparent that the dirtier House was where his passion lay.
Highlights for Tonner have been both on radio where he warmed up for Lisa Maffia & Attomic Kitten in front 0f 8,000 crowd to open Coventry’s Millenium square, his first live radio show at Ikon Coventry where the club was a 3,500 sell out two hours before his show went live, and away from radio his 2004 set at Global Gathering & his recent 2006 Sets at the HI FI Festivals to massive crowds playing after Erick Morrillo and before David Guetta to a strong 4000 crowd. Tonner is set for bigger things and his first studio release of Ian Brown FEAR has been rocking dance floors across the country followed by his Electro Original POLYSIX and Mini Moog which have been cainned in all the clubs across the midlands . With his remix of "On Call" by the Kings of Leon and first release on GINGERTON RECORDS "No More Memories" there is a bright future for this DJ / Producer..
Look out for the new Radio residency along with more club and bar domination........
